Who are We?
You may ask, "Whose are you? Where are you from?"
I may reply, "I am Shinari, We are of Phoenix and from the Beginning."
What does this mean? What are these words I speak? (encouraging smile) We share all this here in our community. A few explanatory sentences will not do justice to the grand nature of our culture. Nevertheless, in order to appease your curiosity, we will try and succintly share a little about us.
Who and what is Roma Old Ways Network? In essence, we are a family. Roma Old Ways Network is run by a Romani couple, known as Shinari and Rhiannon. We are proud parents of our beautiful chavito, Kayne, and also of this online community! (cheery laughter)
We are part of a Natsia consisting of roughly over 1 million family members worldwide. It's a culture unspoken by researches. We have remained free from analysis and scrutiny from all others, both other Roma and Gadje.
Question: What is the best way to work without hindrance and persecution in foreign cultures? Answer: Make believe that we don't exist. What you don't know doesn't bother you. (wink) But now, are you ready to be bothered? (laughter)
On a personal level, Shinari is friend of the Rom Baro over our Natsia and Master Chovihano and Rhiannon's personal Brat. Rhiannon is deeply loved by our Natsia's Rom Baro, and is the reason for Shinari's happiness.
We bring our oral traditions to you in electronic form. We bring our words to you loaded with passion and conviction. Know that we are alive and my very hands have typed these words you read.
Spirit is in an ever quest of self recognition. It is time we recognised each other.
It is a time to celebrate our unity. A time to rejoice and praise our liberty. A time of healing and reconciliation with the "other side".
As messengers of our Ancestors, will you lend an ear?

History
In complete
contrast to our culture's history, the amount of time we have been out
in the open on the internet is very short. We have been sharing our
beliefs, culture, and ways to listening ears for over 3 years now.
Over
three years ago we first came out in Myspace. However, time has
revealed to us that Myspace was not the best grounds to share our
culture. The world was not ready for it. Nevertheless, we have made
many close friends in Myspace that we will forever cherish!
From
Myspace we opened a board at: http://romaoldways.18.forumer.com. Here
is when we first started using the name " Roma Old Ways". Though
grammatically incorrect, we thought it best described our culture and
movement.
The "old" Roma Old Ways board was the establishment
of what we have today. We formed many friendships and established the
long standing purpose of our online community.
And from Roma
Old Ways the concept of Networking was born. We have felt from the
start that we are not an elite, but part of a huge worldwide movement
of indigenous people who are feeling the times are changing. We are
part of a universal Spirit that is bringing the old ways back.
And for this purpose we venture forth. |

* Practice "stepping in our shoes" and understand that we do not need to live up to your expectations of who we are. Keep in mind that we are "new" to the scene.
* Memberships are no longer needed to participate in site!
Where can I start!? This place is fairly new, but already we are filling it up with new content. You will have plenty to satiate your curiosity. You get to meet other Roma, learn about different tribal cultures and so much more! It's a dynamic and flourishing community and it takes you to make it better!
The launch of the site on the 4th of April, 2008 went smoothly! Now we are moving to the next goal... a website where open-membership is welcomed. No longer do you need to obtain membership to enter certain parts of the site. Talking about opening our doors to the public!
We focus on a strong community spirit. We take your experience here very personally (but not overbearingly so). Roma Old Ways is intended for everyone, but may very well suit the family oriented person and those who want to make a positive IMPACT!
